Lunapalooza

On the evening of September 27th, much of the world will be treated not only to a "supermoon", but also, a lunar eclipse. So not only will the Moon be at its closest point to the Earth, but it will move into the Earth's shadow, causing the Moon to appear a reddish hue. A lunar eclipse will not be visible from southern Ontario again until January 2018.

The York University Observatory and the Astronomy Club at York University are teaming up to host "Lunapalooza" at York University to give the public a chance to view the lunar eclipse as well as other astronomical objects alongside knowledgeable staff from the York Observatory as well as Astronomy Club executives! The event begins at 8 pm and will run until midnight. Those in attendance will have available the Observatory telescopes as well as telescopes and binoculars set up on the grass next to the PanAm Stadium. Admission to the event is free. Since the surrounding lights will be turned off at 9 pm in order to ensure optimal viewing of the night sky, this would be the best time for visitors to arrive. Dress appropriately for the weather as this is an outdoor event. We look forward to you joining us for this wonderful astronomical event!
