Speaker Bio's

Visal Sok

Visal Sok did his undergraduate at the University of Toronto. He is now a second year Master student at York University working alongside Prof. Adam Muzzin. His research is on the topic of galaxy evolution, with emphases on the resolved stellar populations of distant galaxies.

Gloria Orchard

Gloria Orchard has a BSc degree in Physics from York University, a MSc in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto and a PhD from McMaster University in Medical Physics. Throughout her educational years she gained experience in experimental measurements in the laboratory and found an interest in experimental physics. She is now a laboratory technologist in the department of Physics & Astronomy at York University.

Olga Andriyevska Olga Andriyevska is a Master's in Physics student at York University. She has been conducting research since her second year in undergrad. Partway through her Master's, she switched into a different research now, now studying under Dr Simone Pisana in the LUTHer Laboratory. Olga has received both NSERC and OGS scholarships for Master's work. Additionally, she has been very active as a leader in her community, having been the Physics Society President in the past, and co-founding and running the Diversity in Physics Committee, which has earned her the prestigious Dr. Robert Lundell Achievement Award and Robert Tiffin Student Leadership Award.

Cheryn Yaeger

Cheryn graduated from York University in 2018 with a double major in Physics and Creative Writing. She began working at Pure Technologies (a Xylem brand) in September. Pure’s robots traverse water and wastewater pipelines collecting electromagnetic data, which is then interpreted to determine the condition of the pipes.
